(Women + wine) x marketing = the worst thing since Oprah’s book club

As I’ve already stated on more than one occasion, I’m no armpit hair waving feminist.

BUT … I don’t understand why, now that the wine industry is starting to figure out that women buy more wine than men, the wine barons take that to mean they should Sex and the City-i-fy brands with pink labels and names like “Seduction” and “Mad Housewife” to get we little maids to buy their bottles.

Luring Women With the Chick Lit of Wine from the NY Times

I cannot fathom how making wine more accessible to all translates into dumbing and numbing it down to the level of Bud Light and afternoon soap operas. Think on that, ladies, next time you see a low alcohol Chardonnay called “White Lie,” and know that you are a pawn. But you can refuse to be played.

I found your blog entirely by accident - and laughed so hard I slid off the chair at this entry.
Dang straight! Heck, don’t they get it that the pink label babes are buying the wine coolers, not the dry reds, etc.?
By the way, I tried the armpit hair thing, and (though I STILL think it can be pretty) it holds sweat and stinks like crazy. So if you aren’t a couch potato, forget it.
