An Incredible Feast, Part One
Yesterday, after the West Seattle Farmers Market, the NFMA held their first An Incredible Feast benefit. Judging by the turn out, this will be an annual event. Twenty local farms were paired with some of my favorite restaurants, whose mission was to creat a signature dish showcasing the farmers’ kick ass wares. I was able to finagle enough time away from my post to incur a righteous buzz and a full belly. Some of the highlights:
The nectarines with Manchengo, spiced Marcona almonds and watercress were almost as sweet as Jason McClure of Sazerac who thunk them up. Walter Pisano of Tulio made perfect crostini with goat cheese from Port Madison Farm, and a tomato/onion conserve–his own concoction. It got me wondering what Voodoo I can do to get my Brandywine tomatoes to ripen, NOW.
Joseba Jimenez de Jimenez of The Harvest Vine, where I go to get my meat on, made friends of crisped Serrano ham, artichokes, cherry tomatoes, and snap peas. But my favorite dish, from Tamara Murphy of Brasa, was organic roasted suckling pig with grilled pluots from Anderson Farms. She had me with the fried pig ears. Look at them glistening. mmmmmmmmmm……

Big props to Chatter Creek, Adelsheim, Barnard Griffin, Domaine Drouhin Oregon, and Waterbrook (and Merril for pitchin in!) for providing the wines. Mucho dinero was raised for the Neighborhood Farmers Market Association, and a symbolic rock was thrown at the tyrranical giant of crappy, out-of-season produce.
Negative props to all the people to whom I bragged about this event that were M.I.A. Shame on you–you lazy, unfulfilled bastards.
