New Wine Review Feature: Now 50% Lazier!
Many of you have asked me to introduce a wine review search feature, or just make my reviews easier to pursue. This has been on my very long list of things to do, as well. I just had to think of the best, and easiest way to do it–to assure that I could maintain said commitment to you.
So if you look to your left, you’ll see a new page titled: Monthly RECS. Throughout the month, I’ll paste all the wine reviews from each of my posts into that page. Then on the last day of the month, I’ll post the amalgam, tagging it with a new category: Judgemental. And start all over again. So…that’s much lazier than a searchable database, I know. But it’s more important to me to not have to recode or reformat anything. Because that would lead to more work and grumpiness. And afterall, this blog is a compulsive, uncompensated labor of love.

I love this wine. But I am very, astutely, acutely aware–as illustrated by the above bold-faced stringing of il wordi confusionni–that it illustrates why many people just say “screw it” when it comes to choosing wine. All you know by the above is that some decendant of some aristocracy, maybe named Alfieri (or is that a grape?) of some location, town, or ???? made a red wine. You can read the back label if there is one, or hear it from someone, like I, that this vino is 70% Barbera and 30% Pinot Nero from an area in Piedmont that specializes in blends of indigenous grapes, and sometimes Cabernet. See how simple it is?
I love this wine. But I hate that it, and those like it, cause confusion. I don’t know why importers don’t force their wineries to include more information on the back label, like sake. If consumers knew they could turn a bottle over and consistently get some knowledge dropped on them, THEY WOULD. Crikey! It’s not rocket science. It’s not even junior high science. So why can’t the wine industry figure it out? It’s easier than solving for 2x=4. Luckily, this particular bottle does have a mildly informative back label that actually tells you how it tastes.
I love this wine. I love that it tastes like a much older wine. The overall balance, the plush texture, the developed complexity of the fruit. I love that the Pinot Nero shows its kinder, gentler side to the pluckier Barbera fruit. I love that most people guess it to be a late 90’s Bordeaux. And I love, love, love that it’s only $15.
I love this wine. I just wish it were easier for everyone else to love it too.

Yeah, I’m with you there. There’s so many lovely Italian wines out there that people would soooo love….if only they were given a little friendly help on the back label. That Bressan Pignol, for instance. Peeps would love that stuff! C’mon, Italians, give us a break here!

Oh goodie! Don’t worry about your solution being too “low tech.” Some of us are also low tech. It’s also nice to see your reviews en masse, you have awonderful, refreshing, relateable style.

Oh yes, JJ, he lacks many things. But apparently that seems to aid in his success. This business you all call wine is completely f***ed up. Wine pros seem to want to keep people in the dark. Me don’t get.
