My best story about Metaxa (actually my father’s story, and I know he reads your blog, so I hope he hasn’t already told you): We are from a pretty small town in California. There exists a real lack of culture in Santa Maria. So, one day, my father walks into the best liquor store in town, the one with the best selection, and the woman behind the counter asks if she can help him with anything. He says, “Hopefully. Do you have Metaxa brandy?” to which she replies, “Sir, there’s a tax on all of our brandy.” He thanked her quite politely and left.

Thank you, you’re the bartender I’m scared to talk to, but I know will have all the answers. I just had this neat. Mmmm, tasty.

I always thought of Metaxa as whiskey or something, until a friend served it to me in a snifter slightly heated. I love Grand marnier, and he knew I would love this too. You nailed the most amazing thing about Metaxa there is absolutely no burn. And it doesn’t cost nearly as much as grand marnier–so thank you!
