More Sparkling & More Pink For You From Me
What can I say? I feel like such a girl lately–if it ain’t pink or sparkly, I don’t want it. I’ll get over it. Maybe I just need to go chop some wood or something.
Juvé y Camps Cavas ($12 to $45)
Catalunya, Spain (Penedes to be exact)
imported by Winebow, but available in select markets only.
When you think cava, you think cheap. And that’s your problem. Some Penedes producers make bubbles of the knock out variety, often at prices less than what you’d have to pay for the same quality and flavor from America or France, or even Italy (Franciacorta prices are out of control.)
I want to focus on two products that deserve your undivided slurping:
Pinor Noir Rosé - Sweet-tart hits of red raspberry and lemon with a very soft finish (no harsh, over-exfoliating effect from the bubbles), stops just short of creamy
2003 Vintage Reserva Brut - Ooh… oohh… That’s nice. A little toasty, a littly nutty, pretty damn complex for the price. At this price range, I’m comparing it to the Argyle Vintage Brut from Oregon, but it bests some large house NV Champagne, too.

Hey… wineshop guy from pugetropolis north,
I think I saw a post a while back you mentioned Segura Viudas Aria Pinot Noir Cava. We just got in two cases, but I think my wife is going to drink them all before we can sell one. Is it that time of year already?

Tip: Most 2005 French Rosés are great right now if they were made well and stored properly. Wine “experts” will tell you to wait for ‘06 in order to get a Rosé that’s young and fresh, but the previous vintage was so good that it won’t be peaking for a while yet.
