I’m a nerd. So even when doing a 400 word story about a local bar, I do research. I love to do research. I should have been a librarian. There are so many cool photographs and documents about Seattle’s Hooverville.
If you’ve taken a visiting relative on the underground tour, you probably already know the term “skid row” orginates in Seattle. Well, so does the name that became the symbol of every shanty town that sprung up after the great stock market crash, “Hooverville.” Wooooo! Alright Seattle! Nobody expresses downtroddeness like Jet City! Woooooo!
And now someone has opened a very wonderful bar just south of the stadiums, paying tribute to the hallowed grounds with its moniker–A Bar Called Hooverville. My article in the Seattle Weekly here.
