Charles Neal: Great White Wines with a Pink Shirt

Domaine de Pellehaut
“Harmonie de Gascogne”
Southwest France
imported by Charles Neal Selections ($10)
Charles Neal always wears pink shirts. He is an Armagnac freak (Cognac’s drink twin, same stuff, different location), so much so he started importing the stuff. But he also has gathered an impressive portfolio of French country wines that surround Armagnac, Gascony, and the south of France.
Harmonie is one of these–a still wine made from the same grapes that go into Armagnac, mainly Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche. The wine is highly aromatic, like a field of wild flowers and herbs. It’s zippy, fresh, and light; this wine has a full strings section. It’s got a hook, chorus, verse, and… well, harmony.
Well played, Charles, well played.
