Framboise From Another Planet

I think I just may have found the world’s most perfect food beverage.

Cantillon Rosé de Gambrinus (imported by Shelton Brothers)

Here’s how come you know it’s so good. I had been to two wine tastings that day, planning ahead so I could save a table of rare, mousse-headed beasties to finish me off. So 83 wines and 4 beers later, I get to this little raspberry lambic like no other. It smells like freshly smashed raspberries in very fine Champers. In your mouth you get the tart hit of raspberry, with very little sweetness and a creamy, yeasty, almost sea salt flavor. There are a few wines from Italy that manage this trick–fruit sweetness and saltiness. I drew 4 hearts next to it. I just don’t do that.

I can’t think of anything I’ve eaten in the last two weeks that wouldn’t go with this framboise. Garlic chicken and coconut rice? Check. Steak Frites? Check. Rueben extra kraut? Check. Cornpone? Check. Chicken livers? Check. Raspberry-glazed old-fashioned? Check!

Man, I gotta get some Lipitor or something.
