Spanish Monsant, with a Tienanmen Kiss
So Beau over at Basic Juice has been doing this wine and art pairing, pretty cool. (Thanks again for my amazon.com prize. It was a tough choice, books or 40’s). So I saw this most amazingly, achingly, perfectly haunting and composed picture worth at least 3000 extra words on boingboing.net:

And I thought, what song goes with this photograph?
Nine Inch Nails, “Right Where It Belongs”
from With Teeth - “What if all the world around you…wasn’t quite as it seems…”
Now, what wine goes with this photograph?
L’Alleu Sere 2004 Monsant Red - From Spain, 30 minutes outside barcelona, 85% Garnacha and 15% Carinena–this 28 year old did time as assistant winemaker in the much poo-pooed Capcanes co-op. An organic winery that produces some of the most elegant wines in this mui macho area, I like this red for the aromatic and vibrant RED, cranberry-laced fruit and the soft grit of its tannins. In a very modern area, where it’s all too easy to extract insanely sugared juice, ferment high-octane syrup, and stick it in American oak to charge $25 and up, up, up–this wine is one of my new crushes. Available through Beaune Imports.
Plus, Sere means I was in Spanish, and I can’t think of a more succinct title for the above photograph.

I was thinking “Head Like a Hole” …I’d rather die than give you control…

Oddly, when I clicked over to your site, I was listening to Steve Earle’s ‘the Revolution Starts Now’
Probably too obvious for this pic.
I’m much envious that you tied Tienanmen to NIN to Sere. Bravo. Well done.
I’ve got a little $11 bottle of Montsant in the cupboard. Now I’ve got inspiration to give it a try.

A beautiful and sublime pairing.
