The Major Talents of Stephanie Miller & Laura Kightlinger

Hi kids! There are two amazing women I’d like to talk about, coming at you from radio and TV.

Mammacita #1: Stephanie Miller has the morning radio show (6a to 9a) in Seattle on AM 1090, the progressive, Air America radio station. She’s accomplished something no one else has in my entire life–she get’s me out of bed in the morning. She puts out the most entertaining three hours of radio I’ve ever heard. Self-deprecating humor, quick comebacks, high-larious bits, and more. In the vein of The Daily Show, the show is heavy on the news and politics. But not even Jon Stewart can make you feel so good while being so irate. Momma can! To subscribe through iTunes or figure out what stations carry Momma in your area, visit: www.stephaniemiller.com.

Mammacita #2: The IFC channel isn’t nearly as cool as it thinks it is, Henry Rollins not withstanding. But the new series The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman (Sundays @ 11pm ET/PT) is genius. It’s for all of us girls who would like to put Sarah Jessica and friends in a headlock and ram their heads through a pastry case. Oh, or is that just me?

You remember Elaine from Seinfeld? Now picture she had a bitchier, much more shallow sister who was semi-making it in L.A. Add uncomfortable and crass situations a la Curb Your Enthusiasm on meth, and that’s the show. And it’s fucking brilliant. Laura Kightlinger created, writes, and stars in it. She’s also written for Daria, Saturday Night Live and some show called Will &… somebody, but don’t hold that against her. It’s hard to pick my favorite episode, possibly The Republicunt, but Tumor Has It is pretty special.

Just saw Minor Accomplishments at a friends house who has tivo. Is she your mother? I can see why you love it, and her humor is just like yours. The episode with her nemisis is very dark and laugh out loud oh my god funny,
