Shipping Laws to Change or Not: Cheap Beer Distributors Hate Wine Ruling
“d” commented in my post about wine shipping that Illinois must be pretty short-sighted to propose banning all wine, etc. shipments from within or out of state. He’s right. But if you look at who’s behind the push for the legislation, you’ll find a bunch of giant beer distributors. Check it out.
And they’re doing it under the guise of family values and “protecting our children.” Yeah, because kids are on winebid.com all day trolling for stray bottles of 2000 Leoville Las Cases. Yeah, they’re not going down to the local QUICKIE MART to nab BEER. Nah.
Apparently these brew boys feel that they are under attack from Bonny Doon’s wine club, and out of state shipments will cut into their business. But if nothing can get into a state that isn’t brought in by a distributor….what do they call that? Parcheezi? Stratego? Or something…
Gee, these tactics sound very similar to…ah, that’s for another blog (or The Daily Show).
I just have one question: Am I confused as to what in the FUCKING HELL the anagram N.A.F.T.A. stands for? Why is it the 50 countries of America when it comes to booze???? OK, that was two questions.
