Menu For Hope IIII: The Mother of All Web Charities
((all new posts will appear below this one until Dec. 20th))
The 4th Menu For Hope benefits the UN’s World Food Programme. Last year’s raffle raised $61,000. It’s a project started by Chez Pim, and I’ve elected to participate again because of all of you. I am always overwhelmed by the amount of money you all donate when I ask.
So I’ll take advantage of you, again. Feed the world, and get crocked. Donate just $10 to Menu of Hope and get a raffle ticket for your choice from a number of fabulous prizes thunk up by bloggers like me (more details below). Of course, I think you’ll be extremely partial to mine:
MY ITEM, Code# WB12 : I wanted to pay tribute to Washington state’s boozy bounty. I know the word “wine” is in the title of this blog, but I’ve never been a monogamist about it, as you know. So why start now?
Included in this item:
• One bottle of Dry Fly Gin, a brand new distillery, the first in WA since Prohibition. It has a wonderful citrus zest and floral aroma that would almost suffer from an olive. This stuff should be experienced straight. (my Seattle Weekly article about Dry Fly)
• One bottle of Westcott Bay Cider - This is reason #114 why here is better than there, where you live. If I took you on a drive north and we ferried over the water to San Juan Island where sits this picturesque orchard, you’d agree. (my Seattle Weekly article on WA cider)
.
• Two not-available-for-prime-time bottles of O’Shea Scarborough - The wine equivalent of a demo tape, my friends Darren and Travis have an entire garage of wine just itching to be sold. It’s not legal yet, but I’m offering you some of my bottles that they made as fledgling, bad ass garagistes.
• One bottle of Washington’s Sky River dry mead, a beverage most worthy of the ancient moniker and my new partner for cheese (my Seattle Weekly article, Mead: Nectar of the Nerds)
• Three bottles of appropriately winter warming GABF award-winning beer - Elysian Brewing’s Dragonstooth Stout, Fish Brewing’s Old Woody, and Hale’s Ales O’Brien’s Harvest Ale.
• Also included, detailed tasting notes for each of the bottles, and recipes from my repertoire for what to eat with each, drinks to make with some, etc. …And maybe some extras!
Suggested retail price: $130 to priceless
Raffle winners will be notified on January 10th.
To SWEETEN THE POT: This item can be hand delivered to you or the recipient of your choice within either the Portland or Seattle metro-area. AND! $$ saved on shipping fills the box w/ extra booty!
• More sweetener: If you live in Seattle, I’ll throw in lunch at Elysian Fields in Pioneer Square on me!
HOW TO DONATE / ENTER:
Click on the Menu For Hope picture, which will give you more information before the pledge page. For each $10 increment, you get a raffle ticket. In the comment section of the form, DO NOT FORGET to write: WB12, that’s W-B-One-Two. add “the wine offensive” if you like to be sure. So $50 gives you five chances. Note: No money is handled by us. Your funds go straight to an independent DOT ORG. Click the box that allows us to see your email address, so we can contact you if you win (not viewable by all, just Alder the sponsor)
It’s not exactly one-click, but it’s worth it. I’m setting your ass UP for January.
And I know you all are good for it. Just skip the lattes for a week.
Notify me of your pledge, and I’ll have my own runner up raffle for a surprise gift (all who bid on my item are eligible). It’ll be alcoholic and gooood……..but not as good as the gift above.
For more details, visit Chez Pim to see all participating bloggers or Alder’s Vinography, for the round up of all participating wine bloggers.

[…] Maggie Dutton, proprietress of the Wine Offensive blog, spends a lot of time drinking. But despite what you might think from the name of her blog, she’s got nothing against liquors of other persuasions. With that in mind, she’s put together a sampler of some of the best booze that the Northwest has to offer, and will be shipping it to you. Maggie will also include detailed tasting notes for each of the bottles and recipes from her repertoire (pilfered from some of the Northwest’s best chefs and their line cooks) for what to eat with each. This prize can be shipped anywhere in the USA. Valued at $80. Prize code: WB12. See The Wine Offensive for complete details. […]

Lunch with you? I’ll bet my next paycheck. But this wouldn’t even get me through the first week of January. Is that bad?

Washington gin? Where the hell have I been?

I love this. It sounds as if you’re making it up as you go along, but it’s the most awesome prize of the wine bloggers (if your not an elitist score whore).
What are you doing, emptying out the swag closet?

[…] Meanwhile, think about participating this year by buying a lottery ticket (just $10 a chance). You can go for what Greg is giving away, the package Maggie Dutton of The Wine Offensive has assembled (beer from Elysian included) or something from scores of other food bloggers. You’ll find the list at Menu for Hope. […]

I would like to ask a question. Is it very difficult to get chefs to donate their time for an event of this type? Was this an online auction? I found FoodBeam.com thru search engine for Green Tea or any type of “Green Foods” recipes. Thanks for your response.
