Italian Wine Review: The 2006 Tre Bicchieri are here! The 2006 Tre Bicchieri are here!
Happy Birthday E=MC2!!!!
Now where the fuck’s my jetpack??
OK, I know I piss and whine about score whores all of the time. But, one list of awards I do pay attention to is Gambero Rosso’s Tre Bicchieri. If you’ve been bit by Italia, their yearly guide to top Italian wines is a very good Primer.
I shamelessly cut and paste this list of 2006 Tre Bicchieri winners from my new friend Fiorenzo. I hope he doesn’t mind. Hey! Let’s give him a plug: he owns a gorgeous wine shop in Genova (or Genoa) that’s been in his family for generations (visit from here: www.vinoteca-online.com). He also has a blog. And even though my Italian is spotty, I’ll be scanning it for recommendations. I trust very few people here in the states to recommend Italian wine to me. I don’t trust them to know the difference between real Italian wine and shite made for the undiscerning international palate.
Because 90% of the time,
NEW OAK + (ITALIAN GRAPE) = ABOMINATION.
So here’s the list, by region:
(I’ve bolded wines that I think deserve a super-special-extra-look)
P.P.S. Most of these wines are sublime and molto denaro.
Valle d’Aosta
Piemonte
Liguria
Lombardia
Trentino
Alto Adige
Veneto
Friuli Venezia Giulia
Emilia Romagna
Toscana
(ed. note: this wine is completely gonzo.)
Marche
Umbria
Lazio
Abruzzo
Campania
Puglia
Sicilia
Sardegna

Sweet list, better than going through the book. Great site and I love to say fuck while talking about wines.

TY for the link. To be sincere, i did cut n paste the list from the gambero rosso forum too, no glory. Here the debate is getting hot, as usual. Some complains about the 3 bicchieri gifted to that producer, others yell because they didnt award a better deserving wine.. old story. The list is useful, anyway.

Thanks for the list…I noticed you highlighted the Taurasi Radici ‘01…gotta get me one of those. The hub and I bought two bottles of the ‘95 vintage this year (can you believe we found them?) and that baby’s drinking beautiful in its maturity. No doubt the ‘01 will, too. Sigh. Gawd bless the I-talians.

Gambero Rosso 2006 Tre Bicchieri Announced
I simply can’t to justice to the recent Tre Bicchieri announcement in the same way as The Wine Offensive’s recent revision:
OK, I know I piss and whine about score whores all of the time. But, one list of awards I do pay attention to is Gambero Ross…

Interesting comment the one you make on being able to differentiate between truly high qualitative Italian wine and “shitty” ffer for export markets. I am a “truly” Italian living in Italy and enjoying Italian wine on a daily basis and very happy to give you the “insight” view. Do bear in mind that Enoteche have their commercial interests as well.
Ciao
