So Adam from Untangled Vine was cool enough to drop a dime on some of his fellow bloggers about a bill being put before Congress. Dealing with Farmers’ Markets, the bill is designed to make it easier for your, mine, his, and her local farmers to get funding for their markets.

It’s a teeny, tiny sub-atomic particle of a bill in the big monolith of a budget. But it’s having problems getting passed. And wouldn’t you know it? Yeahs and Nays are pretty much party line. Hey, farmers! That’s a big “FUCK YOU” from the Republicans, FYI. And yes, the party that took the red states, the states where MOST OF THE FARMS ARE, doesn’t care about making the American farmer more competitive. Because this is what farmers’ markets do. They allow the farmer to sell direct to the customer, at cheaper prices to you–but greater profit to them.

But apparently Republicans would rather outsource everything from our ports and jobs to our fruits and veggies.

So I’m going to make it real easy for ya. So easy, in fact, that you don’t have to do a damn thing.

I am writing to urge you to vote with Congressperson Marcy Kaptur, Democrat-OH, on bill h.r. 710) that is before congress. This bill concerns the funding of farmers’ markets within our communities, all of our communities. As House Bill H.R. 710 states: To authorize the Secretary of Agriculture to provide financial assistance for the construction, improvement, and rehabilitation of farmers markets.

The proposed bill stipulates that these farmers’ markets are to include a majority of locally and family owned farms; it would capitalize up to 25% of the costs of each individual market. We all say we want to help the farmers in this country, that their situation is dire. Let’s actually give them some concrete relief, with this bill.
