Keller’s Gratuity Edict, Per Se

John Bonne, one of the few voices in wine with a traditional media tie worth reading in Seattle, brings up some interesting points in his latest post about Thomas Keller’s decision to implement a 20% standard service charge at his burger joint Per Se in NYC: view post from amuse-bouche.net HERE. Wine for Swine? Don’t Be a Jerk.

My friend and I were eating at the Palace Kitchen last night. White gazpacho was a knockout. Campari & sodas all around. Then this table of people show up, accessories chosen to make sure everyone knew they had money, bottle of 2000 first growth Bordeaux included.
Oh, you didn’t know people do this? […]

trek into the consuming darkness
every now and then for business.
There is only one way to get me to go
the industrial ringworm surrounding
an indoor mall. Bribery.
Especially […]

Greek Fast Food For Parties

We were going for social overload this weekend. Lots of post fodder. I had to make mucho grub. But having waited tables for so long, I learned that it’s the simple things that get the biggest reception. This greek potato dip is always a hit. Most people are freaks for potatoes, and outside of […]

Santo Means Holy: as in…

Holy Shit, When Did Monsanto Come to Rule the World?
We(the royal we) read this post on boingboing.net the other day when we were not writing, but we were consuming copious amounts of tortilla chips and Cinzano Bianco. It was about agro-creeps Monsanto and how they are trying to become Lords of the Pigs.
Monsanto Patents […]

Wine Reviews, Like All Reviews–Should Be of Use

I know you come here for food and wine related stuff. But in a previous incarnation I was a film reviewer. NOT a critic, I hate that word. I think that tells you a bit about me, too. I couch all of my wine recommendations with the phrase, "If you like this sort of […]
